Less
Studio at 620, Karleigh Chase, Ben Love, and The Open Door Band
"LESS" is a one woman show about being a homeless female. A large portion of women on the streets come from abusive pasts and broken homes leaving them powerless to control the downward spirals of their lives. The women in "LESS" will depict the harsh realities of a life where most only have three choices: panhandling, stealing or prostitution. See how thin the veil is between being normal and being homeless, because it can happen to anyone. The evening will also further tie in the theme of homelessness with a gallery of paintings by Ben Love, a previously homeless artist, and music from The Open Door Band, comprised of homeless and previously homeless musicians.

The Studio@620 invites you to experience a profound merging of technology and creativity and immerse yourself in a unique video installation. The title of the exhibition, “small brains en masse”, represents the past, present and future aspects of Dennis’s art. It is not a critical statement. It is a statement of wonder and intrigue that integrates and extends future studies by Dennis to include our very own St. Petersburg. Dennis Hlynsky is a US-based Artist, Designer and Professor at Rhode Island School of Design. “Nothing I am doing with these video recordings is complex or new. There is nothing new under the sun. The internet has given us tools to track our data exhaust —I am afraid in the future we will be comparing any creative thought we have to thousands of similar hits from a google search.” —Dennis Hlynsky

Artwork by Jacqueline Amick The Studio@620 presents emerging artist Jacqueline Amick and her exhibit of recent works “The Divine Connection Between Form and Nature”, October 3-9, 2014. Jacqueline is currently pursuing a degree in printmaking from The University of South Florida in Tampa. As a newly found Intaglio printmaker, she has chosen to specialize in copper etching and woodcuts. She also works in oil painting on canvas and incorporates hand painting in her intaglio/relief prints. This exhibit will feature both the final product and the plates used in their creation. “The Divine Connection Between Form and Nature” is an exhibit that displays the relationship that our Great Mother, Gaia, has with all she has created; the elements and the life forms of our earth. “The inspiration for this body of work came from my mother, who passed away in 2008; and in my eyes, has been placed back into the earth and has become part of Gaia. In many ways Gaia is the source of this body of work- but more specifically the source is my mother herself.”—Jacqueline Amick

Upon This Rock: The Magdalene Speaks
Studio at 620 and Roxanne Fay
“Who was Mary Magdalene?” Was she the fallen woman saved from public stoning? The repentant sinner who anointed Jesus’ feet? Where did she come from? What was her position in the family of Jesus’ followers? Based in the author’s study of both historical and religious sources, the play travels outside the boundaries of the simple sketch offered in the New Testament and introduces a woman of substance and the subversive path that she ultimately chose. Written and performed by award winning actor, Roxanne Fay (Studio@620 Artistic Associate), Upon This Rock strives to make flesh the woman who is called “The Apostle of the Apostles”-Mary, the Magdalene. The play is derived from Ms. Fay's novel of the same name, which will be available for purchase at the performances of the play.

The Studio@620 presents “A Conversation with Trees”, an exhibit of original artwork by Daniel Blignaut. January 19-February 2, 2013 “In my latest work, I return to the subject of trees, which has fascinated me since childhood. Instead of a representational depiction, I employ something similar to an Iconographic template to portray their presence, complexity, and majesty. In “A Conversation with Trees,” I explore the visual nature of my subject matter by expressing it in a variety of textures. The chess board pattern which has always been a dominant symbol in my art now inhabits a new role as part of the broader language of pattern and texture.”— Daniel Blignaut
