This digital collection highlights postcards from a number of events held at Studio@620 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Bob Devin Jones and David Ellis started the Studio@620 in 2004. This collection contains the postcards of a variety of events, from poetry readings and plays to photography and printmaking exhibits. The collection illustrates the rich history of the playhouse and the art movement in St. Petersburg, Florida over the last few decades.

Nate Najar, Studio at 620, John Lamb, and Stephen Bucholtz
The Studio@620 invites you to three evenings of live jazz entertainment featuring The Nate Najar Trio. This series covers three Tuesday evenings: February 8, April 5, and May 3, 2011. Each performance begins at 7:30 PM and will feature swinging jazz bossa nova and classics, all done in Nate's inimitable style. The Nate Najar Trio consists of Nate Najar on guitar, John Lamb on bass, and Stephen Bucholtz on the drums.

Postcard, Olivia: Meaning Envy, 2011

Featuring Alice Ferrulo as Olivia, Four Chairs, a short film by Alice Ferrulo edited by Scott Reus of Vanishing Point Films, sculpture by Darren Carter Beistle, original music by Dennis Mcallister, and costume designs from Rogerio Martins' Envy Collection 2011-2012. Olivia: Meaning Envy is designed around the notion that by definition envy is "a secret within," as evident in each component of the art installation. Black Horse Theatre is committed to addressing the human state of being. Always intimate and vulnerable, the work is set forth in hopes of rattling the mind and spirit, drawing upon components of dance, theater and film.

The Fletcher Dance Project, Studio at 620, and Travis Mesman
The Studio@620 welcomes Travis Mesman & The Fletcher Dance Project as they present a collaborative dance concert "On the Face of It." The performance will feature group work performed by The Fletcher Dance Project as well as a look at the many sides of artist Travis Meman in a one man show setting. The choreographic dynamic displayed is influenced by many years of professional dance and study, resulting in a contemporary take of the artform. As always, the artists claim to challenge the audience's notions of dance concepts while gracefully showcasing their physicality with their seamless and subtle techniques. The evening will be sure to captivate you with projected visuals, innovative dance theater, acrobatics and high energy performances. Join us in an evening of dance and music and confront your fantasies.

We will feature the walls of the studio as an open canvas for visual artists and an open mic for musicians and poets. Purnama Sari Balinese Dance Company and Studio at 620
The Studio@620 welcomes Purnama Sari Balinese Dance Company as they present sacred dances from "The Island of the Gods: on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 PM. The performance will include a classic court dance, ritual dances, and ancient mask dances. For the Balinese, dance is a medium for traveling between "Sekela" (the world of form) and "Niskala" (the world of spirits). The founders of Purnama Sari ("essence of full moon"), Surapsari and Indra, studied traditional Balinese dance with internationally acclaimed masters from Ubud, the arts capital of Bali and have been performing and teaching in the U.S. since 2000.

The Studio@620 and Sylvia Rusche announce the return of singer/songwriter Rod Picott, who "delivers some of the most hard-hitting, eloquent, authentic depictions of blue collar life to be heard in the USA today."-Slaid Cleaves. Picott's latest album, Welding Burns, has reached #1 on the Freeform American Roots and #36 on the Americana Associations music charts. Coralette Damme and Studio at 620
Local artist and printmaking Coralette Damme, aka The Crafty Hag, is hosting a hands on "Rubber Stamp Workshop" at The Studio@620 on Tuesday evening September 27th from 6:30-9:00 PM. Using the same basic printmaking principles used for intricate linocuts, you'll learn to make your own rubber stamps for use on cards, stationary, and other hand made works of art. Come have some fun and make something!

Ryan and Friends celebrates the fickle yet magnetic nature of friendship through song with love and laughs, puns and prose. Featuring Ryan McLaughlin and his friends, such as local favorite Becca McCoy, this evening promises to tickle any theatre lovers fancy. Ryan is a graduate of the Pinellas County Center for the Arts where his credits include roles in Sweeney Todd, Peer Gynt, Shel's Shorts and The Elephant Man.

Postcard, Sacred Forests of India: Conservation Traditions, 2011

The Studio@620 invites you to "Sacred Forests of India: Conservation Traditions," a photography exhibit with film screening and lecture presentation by Alison Ormsby. This show highlights the history of sacred groves in two states of India, Meghalaya and Karnataka. Sacred forests or groves hold cultural and spiritual significance for the people who live near them. Grove conservation reflects people's respect for the god believed to reside in the forest. Alison Ormsby is an Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Eckerd College and was a Fullbright-Nehru scholar in India from October 2009 to May 2010.

Postcard, The Evolution of Pedro Jermaine, 2011

The Studio@620 welcomes an exhibit of original artwork by Pedro J. Perry. "The Evolution of Pedro Jermaine" will be on display September 20th-October 1st with an artist reception on Saturday evening in September 24th from 6:00-9:00 PM. A 15 year old boy looks at his reflection in an old mirror and asks himself "What is your purpose in life?" He has just endured a beating by a group of co-workers but he struggles not to cry because it shows a sign of weakness. He endures the kicks and blows to the head day after day and eventually his life is threatened. He is told that his life doesn't matter while a razor blade is placed upon his neck. He struggles to make sense of all the hate but learns to look past it and forgive. He returns to that old mirror every other day for about a year, staring at his reflection and asking the same question "what is your purpose in life?"

The Studio@620 is excited to offer its first full subscription-based season of theatre: The Golden Ticket Theatre Series. The seven play series will include Langston Hughes' Black Nativity at the Palladium and the tenth anniversary remount of the award-winning Uncle Bends, A Home-Cooked Negro Narratives. The Studio@620 will also produce the world premiere of Christian Couture's new comedy, The Men; local playwright Heather Jones' historical drama, Murder Ballad; Caretaker by Harold Pinter; and Mark Leib's romantic comedy, American Duet, performed in repertory with the world premiere of Stephen Riodan's Seven Deadly Plays.

PRIDE (and Prejudice)

The Studio@620 welcomes photographer Lamar Marchese as he presents “PRIDE (and Prejudice) A Photo Essay”. The exhibit of large format color photographs documents the 2009 & 2010 Gay Pride Parade in St. Petersburg, one of the largest such events in the southeast. As a photographer, Marchese's interest lies in the canvas of the human face and is a mix of portraiture and photojournalism.

The Studio@620 welcomes students from Pinellas County Center for the Arts (PCCA) as they present Proof by David Auburn. Proof won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play, as well as the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and tells the story of Catherine, the daughter of a recently deceased mathematical genius. Catherine may have inherited a touch of her father’s talent, but did she also inherit his demons?

Same Clay Old Way

The Studio@620 invites you to “Same Clay Old Way”, an exhibition of ceramic objects dating from 3000 BCE–1900 CE used in daily life by ordinary people. This exhibit of ceramic antiquities is presented by David Bewley and will be on display April 7–16, 2011 with an opening reception to be held on Thursday April 7 from 6:30–9:30 PM. All artifacts will be available for purchase. Come see how much and how little has changed over centuries of use of clay in our daily lives.

The continent is home to an incredible ecosystem with ever-changing borders of land and ice, setting the canvas for natural artistic opportunities to abound, and with imagery never to be seen the same way again. To enjoy a piece of Antarctica you are invited to join us for a walk among the artistry of Paul Suprenand’s landscape and animal imagery.

The Laramie Project
Studio at 620 and Moises Kauffman
The Studio@620 welcomes The Laramie Project, June 20-22, 2011. This powerful and emotional play focuses on the murder of Matthew Shepard (October 1998), a gay college student living in Laramie, Wyoming. Throughout this show you will meet a myriad of real characters reporting the circumstances of what is happening with Matthew, the legal side of what happened, and personal reactions and opinions. Ryan Monroe specifically wanted to mount this show in June because he understands the importance of the message in The Laramie Project. It has been one of Ryan’s goals to produce this show in hopes of spreading awareness of hate crimes during St. Pete Pride Month. Please come out and support Pinellas County Center for the Arts students as they produce The Laramie Project for you.

Bob prepares a meal for the audience while portraying characters ranging from young to old, man to woman, slave to free man. Musical accompaniment by Nate Najar and Vincent Simms.

This event will premier short films smashed together with several local featured artists, topped off with some breathtaking performance art and live music. It is sure to be a collision of inspiration and passion! Proceeds for this event will go to Creative Clay, a local non-profit that focuses on making the arts accessible for every member of the Tampa Bay community.
