"A kick-off for the Martin Luther King Day of Service and Celebrations." January 11-12, 2014 at The Palladium Theatre The Studio@620 is a proud partner in presenting “Sounds of the Civil Rights Movement: The Power of Song”. This event will serve as the kick-off for the Martin Luther King Day of Service projects and St. Petersburg King Weekend Celebrations. The program is designed to inspire community service while educating the audience about the powerful role songs played in the Civil Rights Movement. The performances will include singers, musicians and narrators from the Tampa Bay Area and beyond. Held at The Palladium Theatre 253 5th Avenue N. St. Petersburg, FL 33701. The Studio@620 welcomes A Simple Theatre's production of "Congratulations, Joe" by Tampa Bay playwright Lee Irby. When slacker Joe lands a coveted job at the local prison, his working class parents, Dominic and Helene, are overjoyed; but pressures start to mount as Joe quickly gets promoted through the bureaucratic system, and he starts to crack. Add to the mix Joe's no nonsense girlfriend, his neurotic aunt, and her get-rich-quick scheming boyfriend, and you have the recipe for A Simple Theatre's hilarious new world premiere comedy. Directed by Gavin Hawk.

"They spin out of control on their manipulative quest for fame and, ultimately, revenge. Little is what it seems, and no one can be trusted as plot twists pile up, and the play hurtles towards a surprise endings." -Dramatists Play Service.

The Studio@6 welcomes MASS Productions presentation of "The Perfect Resolution: A Musical Revue," directed by Mario E. Wolfe. The perfect resolution is a musical revue devised of both contemporary and classic musical theatre songs, which tell the story of a young Man and Woman on New Years Eve. The show follows the journey of the young couple's relationship and how its progression coincides with time; both past and present. Join Yael Reich, 2nd Year BFA Musical Theatre Major at the University of Florida, and Mario E. Wolfe, 1st Year BFA Theatre Arts Major at DePaul University, for a night of music, as they cantillate, contemplate, and celebrate in The Perfect Resolution.

The emphasis of this festival is to highlight emerging film makers who are not presently working as professionals within the film industry.

Perspectives on the Parks

Join us for the second in the "Perspective on the Parks" series about the waterfront parks. These unique evenings of performance and discussion are underwritten by the Florida Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. This evening's performance will be by singer Sharon Scott, who last appeared at Studio@620 to wide acclaim for her portrayal of gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. The evening's discussion will be moderated by former Mayor Rick Baker and look at how St. Petersburg's history of segregation affected who used the waterfront parks. The panel exploring this topic will include noted historian and author Dr. Raymond Arsenault, lifelong St. Petersburg resident James Oliver and attorney Jacqueline Hubbard. An opportunity for questions to the panel will be provided.

In the tradition of the 19th century "Salons" in Paris where patrons could experience an artists' work in a close setting, Studio@620 introduces a new series, "Le Salon de Danse." Among the many visual artists who exhibited at the Paris Salons, it was also where dance pioneer Isadora Duncan first introduced her groundbreaking trends in interpretive dance to an enthusiastic bourgeois audience. In homage to that era this new series brings audience closer to a contemporary choreographers work in an evening's program of short solos in the intimate setting of the Studio @ 620.
