Abstract

This collection includes a variety of underground newspapers, various pamphlets and flyers, and various documents related to political activities, social justice, American involvement in the Vietnamese conflict, and other events during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Collected by William “Bill” Hamilton, a 1995 graduate of the University of South Florida, these materials illustrate the topics of discussion from that time and how the alternative and underground press characterized the rapidly changing social landscape. Most of the underground papers and miscellaneous documents originated from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Mr. Hamilton donated these papers to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library in August 2013 due to their historical value to students of history, journalism, and other liberal arts disciplines.
