Abstract

John C. Briggs earned his Ph.D. in biology and natural science from Stanford University in 1952. For many years, he taught at the Department of Marine Science (now College of Marine Science) located on the physical campus of USF St. Petersburg. After entering phased retirement in the 1980s, he negotiated a purchase/partial donation of his extensive collection of works on ichthyology, natural science, botany, and biology to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. The Briggs Collection offers a valuable research tool due to the breadth of the collection and its many unique and rare titles. Nearly all monographs are searchable through the library catalog.
