Abstract
During the 1930s, William Hapgood and Sylvia Hazel Smith Berry spent their winters in St. Petersburg to get away from the snow and cold weather of New England. While wintering in Florida, they lived in a home in the 13th Street Heights neighborhood and participated in the many social and cultural activities available for seasonal residents. This collection of twenty photographs and four photographic postcards displays images of St. Petersburg taken during the winter and spring of 1933. Many popular sites are represented, including the “Million Dollar” Pier, Williams Park, and the 1933 Festival of States parade. These photographs were donated in May 2002 by Charlotte Barbour, granddaughter of Hapgood and Berry and a staff member at the Poynter Library at the time of the donation.
