Note

These are monumental papyrus bundle columns located inside the Karnak Temple Complex in Luxor, Egypt. They are fasciculate (bundled) papyri-form columns designed to mimic a cluster of tied reeds. They represent the primordial marsh which the ancient Egyptians believed the world was created from. The tops are closed papyrus buds, or bud capitals, tapering inward towards the architrave blocks overhead. Walls depict birds, plants from conquered countries. There are inscribed hieroglyphic inscriptions on the columns.
