Note
This is the marble head of an old woman, dating to the Greek Hellenistic period. She is often associated with the cult of Dionysus, as indicated by the ivy wreath atop her head. This also leads to the belief that she is shown drunk. Her face features deep wrinkles and an open mouth with missing teeth, as if she is in a moment of exclaiming something. During this period, artists moved away from Classical idealism to more deeply explore human emotions. This statue is included in the Skulpturensammlung, part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, in the Albertinum in Dresden, Germany.
