Note

This statue is of the Greek goddess Athena from the Gigantomachy pediment of the Old Temple of Athena on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The subject is seen moving forward in motion, striding towards battle. She is attacking the Giant Engelados whose only remains are the tip of a single foot. In her missing right hand, she would have wielded a spear. Athena is adorned in a long, pleated dress and a aegis (protective cloak) fringed with small serpent details. Atop her head is a crown, known as a stephane, sits within her braided locks. Traces of red and green paint are still preserved on her clothing and hair. This object is currently housed in the Acropolis Museum, Athens, Greece.
