Note

This kore was discovered in 1888 to the southwest of the Parthenon. She is adorned in a long chiton with sleeves and a short himation over it which passes under her left arm while secured on the right with relief buttons. The colors painted on her clothing has oxidized but is still visible today. Different than most korai, who pull their chiton aside to aid their step, this example has both of her arms bent and extends them forward. She was likely holding offerings in both hands, though only the tail of the bird she was clasping in her left hand has survived. The forearms were made of a separate piece of marble and then inserted into the elbow joint. Her hair is typical of the archaic Korai, falling on her back in a knot with curls framing each side of the face. Atop her head she wears a stephane decorated with colorful symbols, with round earrings on her ears and a relief bracelet on her left wrist. This object is currently held at the Acropolis Museum, Athens, Greece.
