Note

This relief was featured on the base of a Kourou statue, which often included decorated low-reliefs depicting athletic training, sessions, games, and leisure activities. It was discovered in 1922 built into the Themistoclean Wall. There are three sides of the base, with this being the front side. The scene shown here takes place in the Palaestra as two nude wrestlers occupy the center of the composition. The figure on the left prepares for a jump while the one on the right holds a long stick or javelin. The object is currently held in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece.
