Note

The Caryatids have become a signature feature of this temple, as they stand and support the weight of the porch's roof on their heads. This type of feature had been practiced previously in Greek architecture, with kore statues utilized as bases. All of the statues on site at Athens today are exact replicas with reinforced supports for the roof. The original statues are protected from the corrosive air of the city within the Acropolis Museum. One of the six Caryatids is located in the British Museum, removed from her original context, appropriated by Lord Elgin.
