Abstract

A cartoon in reference to a news story about President Harry S. Truman, Governor of South Carolina James F. Byrnes, Henry A. Wallace, and Congress. A news blurb above their heads reads "Truman Says He 'Bawled Out' Byrnes but Former Secretary Calls It 'Absolutely Untrue Wallace Raps Truman for 'Slurs' in New Book." Byrnes is shown saying "'Absolutely untrue.' Right." Wallace is saying "So Mr. X is a pacifist and a dreamer, if he means Me I'll - !" and Congress says "12 year limit on Congressmen to cure senility and seniority and he's been here 17 years."

Alt Text

A political cartoon featuring three men standing around a large book titled "MR. PRESIDENT," with speech bubbles showing their negative reactions to the book. From left to right, the men are labeled, "Byrnes," "Wallace," and "Congress." A newspaper clipping printed above their heads adds additional context.
