Abstract
Thomas E. Harvey was a member of the 11th Armored Division, which liberated Mauthausen on May 6, 1945. Harvey and his unit spent a few hours in the camp, witnessing bodies, the crematoria, and some emaciated survivors; an engineering battalion was right behind them to bury the remains. Harvey also helped liberate several thousand prisoners on a death march near Cham, Germany.
