Abstract
Paul Glaz was a sergeant in the 4th Armored Division, which liberated Ohrdruf on April 11, 1945. He and his unit were able to drive their tanks directly into the camp, the guards having previously fled. Glaz spent at least one day in the camp, walking around to see the buildings and the stacks of corpses. He was also present when the battalion commander, Albin Irzyk, and Generals Eisenhower and Patton came to the camp. Irzyk and Glaz became friends early in the war when Glaz helped the then-lieutenant learn about tanks. In this interview, Glaz also tells some other stories from his military experience. Interview conducted on two days: September 28, 2008 and November 1, 2008.
