Abstract
Cranston "Chan" Rogers was a sergeant in the 45th Infantry Division, which liberated Dachau on April 29, 1945. The day Dachau was liberated, his platoon's assignment was to clean out the civilian houses along the camp's wall and to look for escapees. After that, they went into the camp itself. At that point, the camp was under control and the media correspondents had arrived, but Rogers did see the death train. Before Dachau, he also helped liberate some small slave labor camps. Rogers frequently lectures about the Holocaust, often in conjunction with writer Susie Davidson.
