Abstract

Reef fish were collected with hook and line sampling from natural reef sites in the northern Gulf of Mexico from August 30 - November 3, 2015; July 28 - August 9, 2016; and July 25 - November 2, 2017. Fish were caught using 2 hook rigs, cutbait (squid and cigar minnows), and were immediately weighed (kg) and measured to the nearest mm. Identification tags were placed on fish and dissections were performed in the laboratory to determine sex.

Supplemental Information

Site name (sample location name); Lat (Latitude in decimal degrees); Long (Longitude in decimal degrees); Date (date sample collected M/DD/YYYY), Sample ID (sample unique identifier), Site (sample location name), Habitat (Natural Reef), Species (common name), Fork Length (FL mm), Total length (TL mm), Sex (m=Male, F=Female), and Mass (kg). For blank mass cells, equipment was not working properly and fish masses were unable to be collected. Note: Even though site '2 Coops' is listed in the worksheet 'Site data', this dataset does not include data collected at that site. For that reason location for site '2 Coops' is not included in the spatial extent. Coordinates for the sites Mobile Edge, The Edge, Yellow Gravel, and Trysler Grounds are incorrect in the data file. The correct coordinates are as follows: Mobile Edge: 29.4057, -87.95078 The Edge: 29.82835, -87.32493 Yellow Gravel: 29.72506, -87.40498 Trysler Grounds: 29.89628, -87.53241|||||

Purpose

Reef fish were captured with hook and line to obtain biological samples such as muscle tissue, stomachs, otoliths, liver, and bile.
