Abstract
This dataset contains sediment core photographs collected aboard R/V Weatherbird II cruises WB-0812 and WB-1012 and R/V Pelican cruise PE12-22 in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2012-04-09 to 2012-10-18. Sediment cores were longitudinally split and photographed with a Nikon D5100 digital camera with a scale in metric units (cm and mm) for a visual representation of sediment stratigraphy, color, and visual properties. The dataset contains an excel spreadsheet with the photograph filename, core ID, date, location and depth of sediment core collection. Cruise documentation was provided for each of the R/V Weatherbird II cruises. The cruises were led by chief scientists Dr. Steve Murawski and Dr. David Hollander (WB-0812), Dr. David Hollander (WB-1012). The R/V Pelican cruise PE12-22 was led by Mark Pagani and additional information regarding this cruise can be found in the R2R repository https://www.rvdata.us/search/cruise/PE12-22.

Supplemental Information
Dataset contains sediment core photographs (unitless). An excel spreadsheet contains all the photographs filename, the corresponding core id, collection date (MM/DD/YY), latitude and longitude (degrees minutes, decimal degrees), and depth (m). Note that core ID's collected aboard the R/V Pelican cruise PE12-22 are referred to as BP-0412. Correction note: Cruise id for BP-0412 sediment cores is PE12-22 (not BP-0412) and the chief scientist was Mark Pagani.||Ocean Instrument MC-800 Multicore, Shipek Grab Sampler, Nikon D5100.|||
