Note
Douglas "Tim" Jamerson was the first Black person to be elected to the Florida Legislature from Pinellas County in 1982. He represented District 55 in the House of Representatives for 11 years. He then served as the first Black State Commissioner of Education under Governor Lawton Chiles. He also served as the State Secretary of the Department of Labor from 1995 to 1998. Douglas L. Jamerson Elementary School in St. Petersburg is named after him.
