Abstract
In the eighth installment of this oral history, Cliff Gibbons outlines his father, Sam Gibbons' involvement in U.S. trade policy negotiations in Southeast Asia during the Reagan administration. He discusses the challenges leading up to trade agreements, including the Trade Act of 1979, the Andean Trade Preferences Act, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and the Trade Act of 1984. Cliff also highlights deals Sam Gibbons contributed to during the Bush administration, including his trip to Tbilisi, Georgia, and negotiations with Russia.
