Abstract
In the sixth installment of this oral history, Cliff Gibbons reflects on the political landscape of the 1970s as his father, Sam Gibbons, ran for Majority Leader. He discusses the aftermath of the Watergate scandal and major events during Jimmy Carter's presidency, including the rise of the Democratic Study Group, the Trade Act of 1979, and bipartisan negotiations with Japan. Gibbons highlights the challenges his father faced during this time and explores how these experiences influenced his own career.
