Abstract

Cliff Gibbons, in the second part of his oral history, shares details about his father's political campaign, the election, and the founding of the University of South Florida. He also sheds light on Sam Gibbons’ work on various crucial issues such as civil rights, port deepening, redistricting, and Head Start policies that arose during the university's inception. Gibbons recounts his family's move from Tampa to Virginia, and the adjustments his family had to made during the transition. He reminisces his father's breakthrough into politics, the family's close friends, and the work and home routines amidst his father's tenure as a state legislator.
