Cape Canaveral Space Force Station – 3D Historic Launch Complexes
Launch Complex 5/6 Spin Test Facility
Abstract
The Launch Complex 5/6 Spin Test Facility (BRO3052) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, was built in 1952 for fuel disposal and modified in 1956 for “spin testing” rockets and missiles, such as spinning components horizontally and/or vertically to detect defects in balance that could cause flight instability problems. The LC 5/6 Spin Test Facility has a direct Cold War relationship with U.S. manned and unmanned missile programs, the development of submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), and the launch of scientific and communication satellites. 3D point cloud from terrestrial laser scanning survey program by the University of South Florida, Center for Digital Heritage and Geospatial Information.
