Abstract
Jack Lightfoot discovers the secret of the "spit" ball, a pitch that has mystified many batters. With his new skill, he becomes the star pitcher of the Four-Town League, leading his team to victory after victory. But as the pressure mounts, he starts to wonder whether using the "spit" ball is ethical, and he must make a difficult decision about whether to continue using it.
