Abstract
Built in 1960, this previously housed the Gordon Keller School of Nursing. The seven-story block is raised above and cantilevered over a glassed-in podium and faces on the west side, across a landscaped mall with fountain, a one-story building with zigzag roof. The high-rise on stilts and with deep-set windows behind balconies and sunbreaks is Corbusian, but in the manner of the Scandinavian apartment buildings of the 1950s. The arrangement and scale of the contrasting buildings and their mall help in making this an exemplary architectural design. Soon Tampa's tall buildings would no longer have a textured facade, but would give way to tinted glass. This is a detail of the balconies, sunbreaks, and stairs, seen from the east.
