Abstract
This is one of the few Prairie Style houses in Tampa. In 1984, it was beautifully restored by architects Jan Able and Ken Garcia, who received for this the Florida Trust's Award for Outstanding Preservation Project. Leo Elliot, architect of the original, built in 1916, apparently could satisfy any client or his own fancy, whatever the style demanded. The house has a wood frame and stuccoed walls and exhibits some typical features of the Prairie Style: low-pitched roof and wide eaves, windows unified in horizontal bands on a continuous sill, urns on projecting walls and piers. The first owner of the house, Henry Leiman, bought the Cigar Box Company of Tampa in 1902, when it was the largest in the world. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a view from the southeast.
