Abstract

This house, designed by Eduardo Garcia and built in 1983, has as its centerpiece the pool, which is also the light court of a broad U-shaped plan. On the second level, the master-bedroom, game room, and dining room are arranged around it. Beyond the dining room, on the poolside, is the kitchen/breakfast area, which through a slot of windows overlooks the pool and has a view of the woods on the west and north. The chimneys, with cylindrical flues cutting through a box frame, have the same aspect from the inside, glassed-in below the roofline. The roof as seen from the east is emphatically supported by beams which protrude beyond the facade and between which a ribbon of glass gives it a canopy-like form. The horizontally planked walls rest on or are cantilevered over a stuccoed base. This is another close view from the east.
