Abstract
Opened in 1971, the airport demonstrates "form follows function" through movement expressed in the emphatic horizontality and continually curving lines. The free-standing traffic tower (a nationally-used design by I.M. Pei) stands like an exclamation mark and plays against the next highest point, the circular restaurant atop the hotel. The patterns of circulation (ramps, shuttles, elevators, and escalators) and functionally-distinguished floors work excellently. This is a view along the east side.
Alt Text
A tall control tower stands behind a multi-level parking structure with palm trees and grassy areas in the foreground under a clear blue sky. Birds are flying around the scene, and there are some vehicles visible near the buildings.
