Abstract
Dating from 1981, this is one of the few downtown buildings that deserves the name "urban" by providing sheltered pedestrian space in the form of a treelined peristyle and plaza. There is also a differentiation in facades: the north one does not have its windows recessed, while the others are shielded by sunbreaks or false balconies. The northwest entrance is deep-set into the building, creating a stepped and covered space. The southeast entrance is in the gap that opens up as a full height atrium, separated from the outside by a glass wall. Balcony hallways line the atrium and curve into it at the point of the elevator landings. Here the atrium forms a counterpoint to a free outside space, which cuts a corner out of the building. This is a view of the lobby, looking downward.
