Abstract
Oral history interview with Sandra Rodriguez, a native of Tampa, Florida. Rodriguez was born in 1943 and grew up in North Tampa, in what was then a predominantly white community of Florida Crackers (white people of non-Hispanic ancestry). In 1959, at the age of fifteen, she married Luciano Rodriguez, a Spanish/Cuban American. They had to elope in Georgia because her parents were opposed to the interracial marriage. Rodriguez did not find the transition to a Hispanic family difficult, though not speaking Spanish sometimes made her feel isolated. She never experienced any problems because she was married to a Hispanic man, and several of their friends and family members were also in interethnic relationships. Her husband, Luciano Rodriguez, was also interviewed for the Ybor City Oral History Project.
