Abstract
This is an oral history interview with Joe Maniscalco, a longtime resident of Ybor City. Maniscalco, who was born in Italy in 1902, came to Tampa in 1910. He became a cigar maker at the age of twelve and worked in several factories, including Perfecto Garcia and Arguellas Lopez. He recounts some childhood memories of Italy and describes his voyage to Tampa, stopping first at Ellis Island. Maniscalco then discusses the cigar maker culture, including the 1920 strike, and describes the Italian Club and its social functions.
