Abstract
Brian Smith, a county planner for Pinellas County Florida since 1970 and director of the Pinellas County Metropolitan Planning Organization, discusses his county planning experiences. He addresses issues of county and state politics, environmental land, sustainable planning, concurrency in planning, taxation, citizen participation, the interests of developers, and the process of county planning. He also discusses the Pinellas Trail, its effect on the county's development, and similar initiatives.
