Description

This research attempts to a create an understanding of the development of dental practice in India, tracing its progress from ancient to contemporary methodologies. Throughout history, India’s rich cultural heritage has fostered a profound understanding of oral health, evident in ancient texts that detail intricate dental remedies and hygiene practices. These early insights laid the groundwork for the development of formalized dental education and practices, a notion that carried its way through the colonial period and into the present Indian healthcare system. As time has progressed, India has embraced modern technologies and evidence-based approaches, revolutionizing diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities. Adapting some western methods and technologies while combining former ideologies has allowed India to develop a sound dental care system to care for its extremely large population. Despite these advancements, challenges persist, particularly in addressing disparities in access to dental care and combating prevalent oral diseases. The journey towards inclusive oral health requires concerted efforts from local governments and heath care administrators in order to better serve the population. Research was conducted by collecting and synthesizing data and accounts from a wide variety of Indian and external sources. This research attempts to explore the development of dentistry in India while evaluating issues present in the Indian dental care system and providing explanations and solutions for them.
