Abstract
On November 21, 2013, American journalist and author Miles Harvey captivated his audience at the USF Tampa Library with a presentation about his second book, 'Painter in a Savage Land: The Strange Saga of the First European Artist in North America.' This is a non-fiction work that chronicles Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues's adventures with the French expedition to Florida led by Jean Ribault during the sixteenth century. Le Moyne's account of this voyage, including engravings of maps and paintings, was published in Frankfurt in 1591 by Theodore de Bry under the title 'Brevis narratio eorum quae in Florida Americai provincia Gallis acciderunt.' The USF Tampa Library owns a copy of the Brevis and proudly shares digital copies of the engravings at http://digital.lib.usf.edu/lemoyne.
