Abstract
Mabel Sims, a poet with family roots in Pasco County, speaks at the University of South Florida Libraries’ Special Collections, sharing memories of farm life, food preparation, healing practices, and traditions passed down through multiple generations following emancipation. She discusses her ancestry, including connections to African American and Seminole heritage, and describes objects, stories, and practices associated with her grandparents and great-grandparents. Sims concludes the event by reading her poem, “Look Where He Brought Me From.”
