Abstract

Stephanie de Silva interviews Dr. Arthur Guilford about his experiences at USF’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). Guilford began his tenure at USF in 1975 as a professor and concluded his career in 2015 as regional chancellor of the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee. The department had just moved from “Mildew Manor” to the on campus location just prior to his hire. He remembers that the clinical facilities in the new location were not ideal but that he saw the potential greatness of CSD, and he worked to make that potential become a reality. Guilford recounts the quality of students in CSD’s program and that area hospitals were eager to have them. He concludes the interview by saying that the people he worked with form his favorite memories of USF and the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
