Abstract
USF professor of Chemistry Robert Whitaker, hired in 1962, recalls the interdisciplinary program and the physical science courses in the beginning years of the university, the transition from an emphasis on teaching to an emphasis on research, the establishment of the faculty union, and changes in university administration.
