Post Cold War economic and development on warfare

Abstract

The paradigm of warfare has significantly changed from industrial and intrastate conflict to civil and informal war. This study examines the effect of Cold War and the post-Cold war economic policies and development polices have on the shift in warfare paradigm as well as funding conflict. Along with secondary literature, primary sources from international institutions such as International Monetary Fund, United Nations and specific country documents will be considered. Expected results are that in the case of developing countries neo-liberal policies combined with premature democracy and unstable institutions create an atmosphere in which a conflict is possible, while government centralized economies with socialist background are likely to develop more efficiently and peacefully; while in the developed countries conventional warfare has been replaced with trade wars and currency conflict.
