Synthesis of Novel Polycarbonate Polyols

Synthesis of Novel Polycarbonate Polyols:

Abstract: Polycarbonate polyols have been shown to produce novel high quality polyurethanes (PUs). Polyurethanes are generated by the reaction of a compound containing a minimum of two isocyanate groups and another compound containing a minimum of two alcohol groups in the presence of a catalyst and elevated temperature. Varying polyols will change the structural and mechanical properties of the urethanes produced. Polycarbonate polyols show great promise over its counterpart’s polyether based polyurethanes and polyester based polyurethanes. Our laboratory is using these polyols to synthesize novel self-healing Pus. The specific goal of this research is to conduct a systematic study varying the structure of these polyols to unravel the mechanism behind self-healing. This talk describes the synthetic strategy and techniques used to produce these polyols.
