Abstract
In this oral history, Brett Culp, a documentary filmmaker who premiered films at Tampa Theatre, provides context for filmmaking and the aesthetic of using the theatre. He emphasizes the importance of preserving a historic theatre such as Tampa Theatre and draws connections between setting, nostalgia, and history. Brett Culp and interviewers Jill Witecki, Joey Hager, and Andy Huse discuss the significance of storytelling and its emotional and nostalgic impact. Culp discusses his three documentaries and sheds light on his first documentary, Legends of the Knight, in which audiences contributed to charities by attending screenings. The screening of his film took place at the Tampa Theatre. Brett Culp draws attention to the calm quality of the Tampa Theatre space and the unique energy that the theater contains.
