Abstract
This action research project explored the use of math journals with kindergarten students. The goal of this research was to use daily math journals with kindergarten students to to gauge academic benefits as using the Kindergarten Common Assessment (KCA) in mathematical content areas of two and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) shape awareness, sorting, and classifying abilities. At the time of the research, the school received Title I government funding and the school provided 76% of the student body population with Exceptional student education (ESE) services. Results of the pre-test/post-test for the 2D and 3D shape assessment indicated significant growth in the students' mathematical content knowledge. Results of the pre- test/post-test for sorting and classifying assessment indicated significant positive changes. Based on these findings it can be interpreted that the use of mathematic journals provides significant academic benefits.
