Abstract

Contemporary organizational communication scholarship offers complex and nuanced understandings of the ways gender and sexuality are conceptualized, experienced, and managed within organizational settings. This chapter offers a review of literature on gender and sexuality, problematizes the heteronormative approach to organizing, and considers LGBTQ approaches to gender and sexuality in the workplace. Interweaving personal reflections with empirical research, theoretical contributions, and current events, the authors conclude with new directions for future scholarship on organization, gender, and sexuality.
