Note

This is an ancient marble sculpture replica, a smaller version of an original 4th century BCE work by the Greek sculptor Skopas. Depicted is a female follower of the god Dionysus, shown in a moment of eccentric, swirling motion as she dances with her head thrown back. Her drapery is stylized and clings to her body, highlighting the emotional intensity significant in late Classical Greek artworks. It was discovered around the start of the 20th century in Marino (Lazio) and was acquired by Ludwig Pollak in Prague in 1902. This object is included in the Skulpturensammlung, part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, in the Albertinum in Dresden, Germany.
