Note
This sculpture is a marble Roman copy of a Greek original of a youthful athlete in motion. The positioning is dynamic, with the athlete in the pose of launching a discuss or shotput for athletic events or training. He is shown in healthy and ideal condition, with emphasis on his defined musculature. The youth's head is turned sharply upward and to the side with parted lips, a characteristic expression of intense emotion or passion in 4th century BCE Greek sculpture. His hair is thick and tight, with curled locks that frame his forehead, deep eyes, and rounded face contour. This object is included in the Skulpturensammlung, part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, in the Albertinum in Dresden, Germany.
