Note
The Kore was discovered in 1886 in the 'Korai Pit' northwest of the Erechtheion. She is adorned in a chiton with long sleeves and a short himation on top, secured with relief buttons on her left arm. A spectrographic analysis determined her garments were richly decorated with painted crosses, elaborate motifs with spirals, meanders and dots. The colors have oxidized today. In her right hand she holds a quince, her offering to the goddess while with her left she pulls her chiton aside to facilitate her step. Hair is typical of the archaic Korai, with wavy hair falling on her back while four curled locks frame each side of her face and spill to the front. A stephane on top of her head, earrings with painted light-color rosettes on a dark background and a relief bracelet are also featured. This object is currently held at the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece.
