Note

This kore is from the Greek Late Archaic period and was once located amongst votive sculptures of the Athens acropolis. It was destroyed during the Persians Wars of 480 BCE and located in 1886 in the Perserschutt, a pit that was full of discarded ancient artifacts on the northwest of the Erechtheion. This example is adorned in a chiton which is tied around the waist. She also wears a relief bracelet. Her hair is braided with a stephane adorned with palmettes and lotuses, that would have also featured metal ornaments. Her left arm is at her waist, holding the lower part of the chiton, with her right arm extended forward, though her hand is missing. Her expression is of a soft Archaic smile. She is slender compared to other Attic korai, with her style resembling that of Chios, indicating cultural exchange. Some of the original paint is maintained, though it has faded today. This object is currently housed in the Acropolis Museum, Athens, Greece.
