Note

This is a bas-relief sculpture from the East Frieze of the Parthenon on the Athenian Acropolis. Depicted from left to right are Poseidon, Apollo, and Artemis seated together. This fragment is part of a larger scene, with this particularly labeled as Block VI. Poseidon is bearded and relaxed, and Apollo turns to talk to him, boasting a more youthful look. Apollo would have originally worn a metal laurel wreath fastened into the small holes around his hair. Artemis is adorned in a fine chiton and himation, pulling her dress up at the shoulder. The gods are depicted on a grander scale than the humans in surrounding scenes. They are watching the Panathenaic Procession, a grand annual festival that celebrated the city's patron goddess, Athena. This fragment is currently housed in the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece.
