Note
This is a grave stele made of Pentelic marble from the late 5th century BCE. The object was found on Aegina, though some believe it to be connected to Salamis. In the scene, a standing youth has his head in profile, holding a small bird in his left hand and extends his right hands towards a hanging cage. Next to him is a grieving young servant who leans against a pillar. Above this figure is a crouching cat, though its face is missing. The horizontal molding is decorated with a relief band of palmettes and lotus flowers. The scene suggests a funerary context. This object is currently held at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, Greece.
