Note

This marble bust is often linked to Attalos II Philadelphus (r. 159-138 BCE), king of Pergamon. It was discovered in the Stoa of Attalos, a structure that Attalos II financed around 150 BCE as a gift to the city of Athens, Greece. The bearded male portrait dates to the mis 2nd century BCE, emphasizing the Hellenistic features of this era. While the attribution of Attalos II is not definitive, it is widely accepted based on the findspot in the Stoa, the chronological fit within his reign, and stylistically similar Attalid portraits. This object is currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, Greece.
