Note
This statue is a Roman replica of the Aphrodite of the 'Ephesus-Vienna' type that is historically attributed to Alcamenes (c. 430-400 BCE). Hera is adorned in a chiton made of light fabric as well as a himation that covers her left shoulder. In her left hand she holds her himation wrapped around her forearm. In her upheld right hand is a scepter. Her wavy hair is tied back to sit in a bundle on the nape of her neck with a diadem atop her head. The drapery near her legs is detailed with deep folds. The subject was known as the goddess of marriage and consort of Zeus. This piece is currently held in the Farnese Collection at the Naples National Archaeological Museum, Italy. There is also a plaster cast on display in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France.
